Anniversary Ceilidh - info September 2011

The Anniversary Ceilidh to celebrate the 10th anniversary of founding the Caledonian Club, and 15 years of Scottish country dancing in Prague, is now less then a month away, and the tickets are now being sold. Up till the end of September, you can get them at the reduced price of CZK 250.

As was announced earlier, we are going to dance to a live band - the Czeltic. With a great joy I can now disclose another piece of information: The 1st Czech Pipes and Drums band have accepted our invitation and they are going to entertain us during the evening. After all, what whould be a true Scottish evening without resounding tones of bagpipes and drums?

Those who would like to remind themselves of the old times of Scottish country dancing in Prague, are welcome to visit our photogallery . We have now added several new pictures from the archives of Lucie Čermáková (many thanks!). There are more pictures, both from dancing events (mostly from Caledonian Society balls, taken by Ivan Malý ) as well as non-dancing occasions (documenting the first "Scottish" games at Líšnice Golf Club).

So we are now counting the days till 15th OCtober, and looking forward to meeting you, and dancing with you, at Všebaráčnická Rychta in Prague,

On behalf of the Caledonian Club,
Jan Drastík

Anniversary Ceilidh - info August 2011

Here is further information on the Anniversary Ceilidh on 15th October 2011, which is organised to celebrate the 10 years since the foundation of the Caledonian Club, and 15 years of Scottish country dancing in Prague.

First of all, we should like to thank all those people who helped us trace many of the former Scottish dancers in Prague. We have managed to get in touch with most of them though, sadly, some of them won’t be able to come.

We have already informed you that the ceilidh would take place at the Všebaráčnická Rychta. Today we can announce the name of the band that shall play to our dancing – the Czeltic.  This was the first Czech band specialising in Scottish country dance music. This year, they have got again together, in virtually the original set-up: Petr Vašek (guitar), Marcel Pindel  (percussion), Jaroslav Krasničan (accordion) and, of course, Vašek Rout (vocal and bagpipes). Another important guest of the evening will be the piper William Chip Doehring.

The programme is currently being finalised. The door will open at 7.30 p.m. for the start at 8 p.m., and the ceilidh will go on until midnight. The dance programme will consist of some old favourites, chosen from simpler Scottish country dances, as well as traditional ceilidh numbers. The dance order with cribs will be sent to you in advance. If you would like to refresh your dancing skills you can apply to participate in our Weekend Course for beginners and less advanced “dancing apprentices”. It will take place in Prague on the preceding weekend, i.e. 8th-9th October 2011. Some of the dances on the Ceilidh programme will be taught during the Weekend Course.

The Ceilidh tickets are now on sale. For those who purchase them before 30th September, the price is Kč 250. After that date the price increases to Kč 300. The tickets can be booked via e-mail, as a reply to this message, i.e. on info@caledonianclub.eu . The tickets will be sent by e-mail after confirmation of money transfer into our account.  For those who have already booked their tickets, but have not yet received our instructions for payment, please, contact us to let us know.

We look forward to seeing you, and dancing with you, at Všebaráčnická Rychta in Prague, on Saturday 15th October 2011.

On behalf of the Caledonian Club,
Jan Drastík

Anniversary Ceilidh - info May 2011

Dear members and friends, past and present, of the Prague Caledonian Club,

Not long ago you received from us information about the forthcoming Anniversary Ceilidh, which we are preparing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Club’s foundation. It will also mark the 15 years since Scottish country dancing started its organised existence in Prague. Your response was very encouraging, so I would now like to let you know how the preparations progress.

First of all, I am very pleased that it has been possible to book for the occasion the “historical” premises, where it all started those fifteen years ago – the Všebaráčnická Rychta . If you’d like to remind yourselves what the beginnings of the Scottish dancing in Prague looked like, you are invited to visit  the photo gallery on our web site (photos from  the period 1996 – 2000).  If you have kept some of your own pictures from those years, and would like to share them, we would be pleased to receive them (in *.jpg format, if possible) and add them to the photo gallery.

We would also very much appreciate, if you are still in touch with some participants from the period 1996-2000, to let us know their whereabouts. We have a list of several people that we have not managed to contact. They are:

Mike Baum, Táňa Brázdová, Jim Cook, Mary Crocco, Martin Cullen, Stephen Fox, Biff Frederikson, Steve Gray, Charles Hay, Štĕpán Holub, Moira Leith, Vladimír Mašek, Bernadette McFadyen, Robert Petterson, Rolf Schwarz, K and M Wilson,J and N Procházkovi.

Any information on how to contact the above people (preferably their e-mail address) would be much appreciated.

The Ceilidh tickets will go on sale during the month of June. We shall, of course, keep tickets for those who have already booked. The size of the hall makes us to restrict the number of tickets for sale – so do not dither and let us know as soon as possible if you intend to come and celebrate with us!

We very much look forward to seeing you and dancing with you again on 15th October 2011 in Prague at Všebaráčnická rychta.

On behalf of the Caledonian Club

Jan Drastík

Anniversary Ceilidh - invitation

Dear dancers and friends of Scottish dancing,

It is hardly believable that it has been the whole fifteen years since the Caledonian Society started Scottish country dancing in Prague. Five years later, the Caledonian Club was founded and has successfully carried the Scottish dancing tradition in the Czech capital till this day.

During all those years we have met many nice and interesting people, and found many new friends, thanks to Scottish dancing.  Some of them we still meet regularly, others only occasionally. To mark this year’s 10th and 15th anniversaries, we have decided to organise an Anniversary Ceilidh and invite everybody we have met during the past fifteen years.

Allow me thus to invite you to join us on this special occasion, which will take place on 15th October 2011. I am sure you will not want to miss an opportunity to meet again your old friends. In order to make sure that we hire a big enough hall for dancing, eating, drinking and socialising, we should be grateful if you would let us know – without obligation – whether you intend to come and celebrate with us. We would like to provide the best optimal environment for our meeting, so please do not fail to let us know.

And I also have another request: I am afraid our list of contacts is far from complete and probably in some cases not up-to-date. If you know of people who came to dance with us in Prague in the past fifteen years, and have their postal or e-mail address, or phone number, please, let us know! Your information could be very helpful to us. We would not like to miss anybody!

I sincerely hope that you will be able to come to Prague and celebrate with us on 15th October 2011.

On behalf of the Caledonian Club,

Jan Drastík
